How’s it going?
Has the stomach of your mind started rumbling from lack of media overload?
If you have already failed, don’t give up. Commit to the 21 days. Get connected with the rest of the group. Help them and let them help you stay focused.
Isaiah 40:29 says, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
You can’t stay strong, but God can. Let Him do it.
Now, if you’re just a slacker and did not commit to the “media fast” for 21 days and you don’t plan on doing it you should have gotten out. Yep, that’s right. You should have stopped taking this journey with us and gotten out of class. Listen, if you are not going to push life and step off into living with raging abandonment for Christ, then you are not going to benefit from this study and you will bring the group down.
So if you get out of our class then what do you do? Seek to know God. Pray that He will bring you to a point where you are ready. Stay in touch with us and let us help you get ready so you can try this again.
THE WORD
Okay, back to those who are still doing this.
Check this out: Matthew 12:33-37.
· Look at the part about stuff “stored up” in you. How do you “store up” stuff inside you?
· In what ways do things get into your mind and heart?
· How can you store up good stuff?
· How can you store up bad stuff?
· At the end there is a lot of weight put on our words. Why? Why is what we say so important? What do our words tell about us?
So how does any of this relate to the 65 day media fast? (ha, just checking to see if you were paying attention.) The 21 day media fast – let’s see.
Think about the last couple of days.
· Have you wanted to veg-out with the TV, music, or Web?
· What has been your biggest desire to get into?
· What did you do to fight the urge?
· What is the Scripture you focused on?
This media fast, it’s tough.
But hey, know that you are not the only one. Call two people from class. See how they are doing and how their day went. Ask them the questions you just answered.
LIFE LINK!
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
(Romans 12:2)
THE THING.
Write down all the cool things you can thing of about God. It can be stuff in the Bible, things you’re heard, or things that you have experienced with God. Write a list of those things.
That’s called praising God. Telling Him who He is in our lives and what we love about Him. Telling Him who He is also reminds us who we are and who we are not.
Check out the verse again: Romans 12:2.
Read it. Turn it into a prayer about your 21 day media gast. Write the prayer.
If you want, make a symbol to remind you of the 21 days. I have a pillow case over my TV so I can’t even see the screen. But try putting a card on the TV on computer with the LIFE LINK! and the date the fast is over (Oct. 17th).
Do whatever it take. Stay strong. It is going to be tough. Help the people in the group. You can do it. No doubt. Run at the challenge full-speed and feel the burn of taking control of your mind.
